Washingtonburg Chapter hosted a Grave Marking Ceremony for Patriot John Kelly, buried at Lewisburg Cemetery. Kelly was instrumental in helping George Washington at the battle of Princeton by destroying the Stony Brook Bridge that prevented the British Army from crossing the river advancing toward Washington and his troops.
Steve Troutman of Washingtonburg had requested President Lemon’s assistance in repairing Kelly’s monument at Lewisburg Cemetery. The monument had shifted over time, was in danger of collapsing, needed a few cracks repaired, and the top of the monument had remnants of a previously failed repair. Lemon and his father made the trip to repair the monument prior the ceremony. For this repair and dedication to preservation, Washingtonburg Chapter awarded Lemon the Bronze Henry Knox Medal.
Lemon also participated in Color Guard as rifleman, stood as sentry at the gravesite during the ceremony, and read the biography of Colonel Kelly to the crowd.
